Edenwald Retirement Community Housing

Maria Parham Hospital is a 75 year old, 102 bed private, not for profit community hospital in Henderson, North Carolina. Following a strategic planning exercise, the Board of Directors retained Wilmot/Sanz to develop a new facility plan involving both new and renovated space.

LOCATION: Towson, MD

OWNER: Edenwald
800 Southerly Road, Towson, MD 21286

ARCHITECT: SFCS
305 South Jefferson Street, Roanoke, VA 24011

CONTRACTOR: The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company
300 East Joppa Road, Baltimore, MD 21286

Rathgeber/Goss Associates served as the structural consultant, providing full design services from schematic design to construction administration.

The project consisted of a 5 story tower addition to the existing hospital to house a new surgery department, emergency department, imaging department and a new main entrance. Also, there was an expansion of the existing power plant and major renovations to the existing facility

The additions structure consists of a framed steel tower of composite steel beams and deck with braced frames located in the building’s core to resist lateral loads. The steel tower is supported on spread footings. In addition, temporary underpinning and soil nailings allowed for a one story basement level. There was also an addition to the power plant and three new canopies.

The addition was completed in Spring 2005, and provides a flexible and efficient layout for the continued hospital growth and improved facility space.
